To create a beautiful garden without too much
work or anxiety, inspiration must come from the local flora.
Here in the Var, this wild and spontaneous vegetation is called
the “garrigue”. Our hills are covered with scented
shrubs: the famous Provence herbs of rosemary, lavender, savory
and fennel. Flowering in spring, their leaves are decorative
and permanent. These plants require only a little water, a well-drained
soil and some sun.
To these local plants, already rich in perfume
and colour, we add plants from other regions of the globe, like
California, Australia or Southern China? That have comparable
environments.
Do you know this rose that grows in the south of China, rosa
sinensis mutabilis? It keeps its leaves all year and its simple
flowers, like the wild rose, change from pale yellow to pink
over a few days.
Or the ceanothes, from California, that are covered with electric
blue flowers to the point where they completely hide the foliage?
It is available in dozens of varieties from a ground cover plant
to a tree
